Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS)
Employee Net Promoter Score (eNPS) is a metric used to measure employee loyalty and engagement in the workplace. It is adapted from the well-known Net Promoter Score (NPS), which is commonly used to assess customer loyalty. Instead of evaluating customer satisfaction, eNPS helps organizations understand how employees feel about their workplace.
The eNPS asks employees:
“On a scale of 0-10, how likely are you to recommend our company as a great place to work?”
Based on their answers, employees are divided into three groups:
- Promoters (9-10): Enthusiastic team members who love their workplace and would gladly recommend it.
- Passives (7-8): Neutral employees who aren’t unhappy but also aren’t raving fans of the company.
- Detractors (0-6): Dissatisfied employees who are unlikely to recommend the company and may even speak negatively about it.
How is eNPS calculated?
The formula is simple:
eNPS = (% of Promoters) - (% of Detractors)
The score can range from -100 to 100. The higher the score, the better your employee engagement and satisfaction levels.
Understanding your eNPS score
So, what does your score mean? Here’s a breakdown:
- -100 to 0: A high number of detractors - this signals major issues with employee satisfaction and workplace culture.
- 0 to 10: A balance between promoters and detractors, meaning there’s room for improvement.
- 10 to 30: A positive work environment with engaged employees.
- 30 to 50: Above-average employee satisfaction - your company is doing well!
- 50 to 100: Exceptional engagement - your employees truly love where they work.
Is a zero eNPS score good?
Not really. A score of zero means you have just as many detractors as promoters, putting your company in a vulnerable position. It suggests employee sentiment is lukewarm, which can impact retention and morale.
Why eNPS matters
A strong eNPS means happier employees, lower turnover, and a better company culture. By tracking this score regularly and acting on feedback, organizations can create a workplace where employees feel valued and engaged.
